The group, formed in 2013, has been playing in this line-up only since last summer. Initially the group started as a vocal and double bass duo, and eventually grew into an interesting, idiosyncratic Quintet.

 

CinAmono has found its niche in Lithuanian jazz, drawing inspiration from poetry, collaborating with theatre actors, artists and representatives of other art fields. The group is often invited to perform at poetry events, exhibition openings, and takes part in theatre projects. It gave concerts at the Vilnius Book Fair, Druskininkai Poetic Fall, Vilnius Leaf Festival, and galleries in various Lithuanian cities.

 

The Quintet’s music impresses with stylistic colourfulness, contrasts and elaborated improvisations. It has participated in all jazz festivals in Lithuania, toured in Germany, Latvia and Estonia. Its compositions have been included in the collections of Jazz from Lithuania four times and in the collections of Note Jazz from Lithuania a couple of times.

 

The group’s debut album, CinAmono, was released in 2018, and last year they recorded the second album, Music is the Ocean. The compositions of the latter album will be featured in their program at the Birštonas Festival.

 

Vocalist and composer Laura Budreckytė was a multiple winner of Dainų dainelė (Songs of Songs) and other national competitions as a child. She has graduated from Birštonas School of Arts and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she studied jazz vocal. The singer also honed her skills at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, took part in master classes led by Bobby McFerrin, Jeff Cascaro and Brian Melwin. 

 

In 2012, the emotional and technically advanced performer won the international competition of jazz vocalists Jazz Voices in Klaipėda, where she was also voted the best performer of the free program. In 2013, she garnered Grand Prix at the international competition of jazz vocalists Riga Jazz Stage.

 

The victories paved her way to her appearances in prestigious festivals Pori Jazz (Finland) and Rigas Ritmi (Latvia). With The Schwings, she earned accolades at the Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival in the United Kingdom. She toured in Spain, Germany, France, Belgium and Bulgaria.

 

In 2014–2018, Budreckytė taught singing at the Department of Popular Music of the University of Applied Sciences, in 2017 she joined the teaching staff of the private Queen Martha School. In addition to her artistic activities, the soloist also takes care of the vocal preparation of the actors of the Russian Drama Theatre of Lithuania and is interested in music therapy.

 

Paulius Volkovas studied the guitar at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. While still a student he began participating in festivals and competitions as both a performer and composer. In 2006, his trio claimed first prize at the Džiazo fontanas (Jazz Fountain) festival in Panevėžys. In 2009, as a member of Yrinauda he was awarded Grand Prix at the Vilnius Jazz Young Power competition.

 

The guitarist has worked with Reinless, Jing’a Ling, Saulės Kliošas, Migloko, The Ditties, The Schwings, Baisios Stygos and Mad Harmonix. With various bands he toured in Germany, Poland, Turkey, France, Belarus, Italy, Finland, Estonia and Latvia.

 

 

Double bassist and composer Vytis Nivinskas studied music privately. Later on, fascinated with jazz he swapped philosophy studies at the Vilnius University for the double bass. He graduated from the Vilnius Conservatoire, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, as a student of Erasmus exchange program he furthered his education at the Det Fynske Conservatory in Odense (Denmark) and later earned master’s degree from DePaul University in Chicago (USA).

 

While living in the USA (2001–2005), Nivinskas played with many improvisers from Chicago and New York City, together with saxophonist Rimvydas Paulikas co-founded the Baltic Asteroids band in Chicago.

 

Since study years, the double bassist has worked with a variety of music projects. He was one of the co-founders of Saga, Riot and Baisios stygos jazz groups, collaborated with Vladimir Tarasov, Petras Vyšniauskas, Dalius Naujokaitis, Arūnas Šlaustas, composer Linas Rimša, Jauna Muzika choir and Baltic Guitar Quartet, pop-singer and actress Jurga Šeduikytė, vocalist Giedrė Kilčiauskienė and Andrej Polevikov as well as Pieno Lazeriai alternative music group among others.

 

Since 1994, the performer has appeared in 20 countries around the world with various projects. In February, Vytis recorded his debut album with pianist Richardas Banys and drummer T.J. Räsänen.

 

In various projects Nivinskas has collaborated with representatives of other art fields including dancers of Low Air theatre, Auksė Petrulienė (the founder of Psilicone Theatre), dancer Lora Juodkaitė, singer and actress Brigita Bublytė, actors of the OKT and the Lithuanian State Youth Theatre, theatre director Jūratė Paulėkaitė and poet Kęstutis Navakas.

 

Since 2005, Vytis has been teaching at the University of Applied Sciences and the Jazz Department at the LAMT. He is currently completing his PhD in Arts at the LAMT. Nivinskas is also involved in the activities of the Lithuanian Jazz Federation.

 

Tuomas J. Räsänen is a sought-after drummer, a student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. He won first prizes in both Tamsta Drum Day and Baltic Drummers League competitions. In 2020, his group JUZT won the Vilnius Jazz Young Power competition, where he was also recognized as the best instrumentalist.

 

In addition to JUZT, the drummer plays in Avis Rara and KZK on TV. With various formations he has participated in jazz festivals in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Elektrėnai, Ariogala, RUMSHK’20 in Šiauliai, Loftas Fest, Saulkrasti Jazz (Latvia) and Beantown Jazz (USA).
