To this day Birštonas Jazz festival had not yet introduced an exclusively foreign group and especially the calibre of this quartet. It unites the representatives of NYC jazz elite teaching at the prestigious jazz schools and touring around the world with jazz legends.

The New Yorkers decided to visit Birštonas after their concert in Stockholm.

“He is a passionate musician with great vision, and he is constantly in fiery pursuit of innovation”, the celebrated Lonnie Smith, a guitarist with whom Kreisberg regularly tours, says of Johnathan Kreisberg.

Jonathan has worked in the bands of many jazz greats including Lee Konitz, Joe Locke, Stefano Dibatista, Ari Hoenig, Joel Frahm, Don Friedman, Greg Tardy and Donald Edwards. He has also led groups of various instrumentations featuring artists such as Bill Stewart, Larry Grenadier and Scott Wendholt.

Combining timeless melodicism with forward thinking lines and textures, the guitarist’s style and approach has created a strong following of fans around the world.

Born in New York City, Keisberg moved to Miami with his family. He was admitted to the New World School of the Arts, where his jazz studies took centre stage. Intensely dedicated to the instrument, he was featured in Guitar Player and DownBeat while still in his teens. He won a scholarship to the University of Miami, where he held the guitar chair in the acclaimed Concert Jazz Band, touring and performing with Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker and Red Rodney.

Upon graduation, Jonathan began playing straight ahead jazz gigs as well as a myriad of other projects. He performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. He also performed extensively with the progressive rock group Third Wish. In addition, he formed the Jonathan Kreisberg Trio. Based in Miami, the Trio completed several U.S. East Coast tours.

Upon moving back to his birthplace in NYC, he focused on cutting edge acoustic jazz. “I found that the deeper I got into the tradition the more possibilities I became aware of for the future”, explained the musician.

Jonathan has now recorded eight CDs as a leader, including One, his recent all solo guitar album, and Wave Upon Wave, his latest JKQ offering. With various groups he travelled many major American and European jazz festivals; regularly appears in NYC jazz clubs. He also teaches at the Jazz Department of Prince Claus Conservatoire.

Martin Bejerano, a native of Miami, Florida, has been active as a professional musician since the age of fifteen, when he began his performance career playing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue concerto with the Mexican-American Bi-National Symphony while still in high school. A graduate of the esteemed New World School of the Arts where he studied classical and jazz piano, composition and arrangement, he received a full scholarship to attend Florida State University, won third prize in the prestigious Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and was chosen to attend the famed Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Colony.

In 2000, Bejerano decided to move to New York City in order to further develop his career. Before long, he was asked to join the quartet of legendary jazz drummer and Grammy award-winning artist Roy Haynes. Their recording was nominated for Grammy. Martin also joined internationally acclaimed guitarist Russell Malone’s quartet, touring and recording with the group for over eight years, while continuing to tour with the Roy Haynes quartet to this day.

Employing a serious technical command of the piano, a highly modern harmonic and rhythmic concept, and a commitment to lyricism and musicality, Bejerano has continually garnered critical praise across the world. Having performed with the likes of the Christian McBride Band, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Ron Carter, Ignacio Berroa, Lonnie Plaxico, Bryan Lynch, Adam Nussbaum, Roy Hargrove, Arturo Sandoval, Mingus Big Band, John Faddis, Wycliffe Gordon, Kevin Mahagony and many more. He even traded choruses with the legendary keyboardist Chick Corea.

The pianist’s recordings also gather awards. As a composer, he enjoys commissions from the most prestigious American music institutions. Currently, Martin heads the jazz piano department at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

Matt Clohesy Australian bassist left his hometown of Melbourne for the USA in 2001. While still in Australia, he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, collaborated with renowned Australian musicians.

Based in New York City, he has since gained much recognition, has been called upon to tour and record with such notable band leaders as Seamus Blake, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Geoffrey Keezer, Eric Reed, Kevin Hays, Ingrid Jensen, David Kikoski and Maria Schneider to name but a few.

Clohesy continues to work with many of his peer’s groups including Lage Lund, Mike Moreno, Jonathan Kreisberg, Will Vinson, John Ellis, Jo Lawry, Gretchen Parlato and the Alan Ferber Nonet. He also collaborates with pop stars including Grammy winner Colbie Caillat and can be heard often with the Chris Bergson Band.

Colin Stranahan is among the most sought-after drummers in New York working with such artist as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Fred Hersch, Terence Blanchard, Dave Kikoski, Kevin Hays, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and many others. He also plays in a trio with New York celebrities Glenn Zaleski and Rick Rosato.

By his teenage years Stranahan was already actively working on the local Denver scene, and has released multiple records. After receiving the prestigious National Foundation Advancement of the Arts Presidential Scholar award in 2005, he studied at the University of the Pacific. He also attended the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at Loyola University in New Orleans. In 2012, he became a prize winner of the Thelonious Monk Drum Competition.

Stranahan currently holds adjunct teaching positions at London’s Royal Academy of Music and Aarhus Royal Academy of Music (Denmark), also gives master classes in the USA, Italy, Thailand and Singapore.
